吴冠中早年从浙江省立工业职业学校电机科转入杭州国立艺术专科学校,在多位留法老师的影响下,立志要亲身去法国留学。1946年,他通过了教育部公费留法考试,既实现了去法国留学的梦想,同时也开启了他体认民族、发现故园,坚持中西绘画融合探索的创作之路。那份尘封60年的留法答卷不仅体现了吴冠中早年在画史、画理方面的知识素养与论述逻辑的扎实和谨严,同时也反映出当时战后国民政府留学政策和考试的深刻目的和现实意图。

In 1936,Wu Guanzhong was transferred from Zhejiang Provincial Industrial School to Hangzhou Art Academy.He was determined to study painting in France under the influence of his teachers who once studied there.He passed the test at public expense held by the Ministry of Education in 1946.He realized the dream to go abroad and opened up the prospect of integration of Chinese and Western painting.The test paper sixty years ago speaks of his knowledge about painting history and theory,and his rigorous exposition.It also reflects the policy of going abroad for study set by National Government,and the test purpose.
